Best and fastest is by taxi,
Best and fastest is by taxi, somewhere around $70, at least one hour travel time. Cheapest is by public transportation; take AirTrain from terminal to Jamaica Station ($5), transfer to E subway ($2.25) to 34th St/Penn Station, walk to PATH station at 6th Ave/33rd St and take PATH train ($1.75) to either Grove St or Journal Square, both in Jersey City, allow two hours travel time.
JFK to Midtown
Hi, I've got a party of 6 family members, need to get us from JFK to Midtown hotel and return, and keep us all together if possible (I know we won't do it with taxi even probably a van), without subway or the Airport bus. Any recommendations appreciated, thanks!

At that hour you may want to take a taxi, although it would be very expensive. You can get to Harriman by NJ Transit Port Jervis line train but the last evening train from Penn Station is 12:30am, next train is at 5:45am and all trains from Penn Station require a transfer at Secaucus Junction (see www.njtransit.com). You could take a taxi from JFK to Penn Station (around $60) or AirTrain from terminal to Jamaica Station and LIRR from there to Penn Station (around $11), as both run 24/7.

I'm flying into JFK from Tampa on April 18th @ 8 30am an need to get to Penn station ASAP... Amtrack will pick me up from airport but takes to long to get to Penn Station... Taxi will take you direct $45+tolls+tip. You can also take subway; AirTrain from terminal to Jamaica Station, transfer to E subway to 7th Ave (at 53rd St.), walk three blocks north to 56th St. and turn right towards 6th Ave.
