Taxis
Taxis are available at every terminal and there is a taxi stand where you will be directed to a taxi.
- use only taxis from the taxi dispatch booth (refuse offers for transportation from others)
- tipping is customary for good service (15 - 20%)
JFK Airport Taxi Fare
$2.50 upon entry
$0.40 for each additional unit
Unit fare:
- 1/5 of a mile, when the taxi is traveling at more than 6 miles/hour
- 60 seconds when not in motion or traveling at less than 12 miles/hour.
The taximeter willl combine fractional measures of distance and time in accruing a unit of fare. Any combination of distance or time shall be computed by the taximeter.
The fare shall include pre-assessment of the unit currently being accrued; the amount due may therefore include a full unit charge for a final, fractional unit.
Night surcharge of $.50: 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM
Peak hour Weekday Surcharge of $1.00: MON - FRI 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Tolls
Tolls enroute to destinations within New York City are the responsibility of the passenger. On all trips within the New York City, any bridge and tunnel tolls to the destination shall be paid by the passenger, who shall be informed before the start of the trip.
On all trips within the City of New York, return tolls shall not be charged except for trips over the Cross Bay Veterans, Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial, and Verrazano Narrows Bridges.
On trips beyond the City of New York, all necessary tolls to and from the destination shall be paid by the passenger.
Flat Fare from JFK Airport:
The Taxi & Limousine Commission is conducting a Flat Fare program for trips between (to and from) the Manhattan and JFK International Airport.
The flat fare is $45.00 plus any tolls. The meter will not be turned on and the night surcharge will not be added.
If passengers request multiple stops, the flat rate of $45.00 will be collected at the first stop in either Manhattan or John F. Kennedy Airport, and the meter will be turned on for the remainder of the trip. The metered fare should be collected at the last stop, from the last passenger.

This is a Manhattan zip code (upper Manhattan-Harlem) so the taxi fare would be flat rate $45+tolls+tip. You can also reach that area by public transportation (Airtrain to subway $7.25).
Hi - my daughter and niece arrive at JFK from the UK on Friday and will need a taxi to the Kimberly Hotel. How much will this cost and is it in your flat fare rate to Manhattan or would they be better off to pre-book from the UK before they fly. Many thanks

If my friend gets a Taxi to JFK to spend time with me during my stopover will I be able to go out and pay the taxi for them? Will the taxi accept my credit card? Can they book one of the JFK cabs so they know they take credit cards?

You can do that as long as you meet the yellow cab as it arrives and your friend has to make sure(before the trip) that the taxi takes credit cards.
Or you can order a private car and pay for it with your credit card either online or over the phone.

Hi I need a taxi to JFK from bayside, Queens that can accommodate four people and four luggage. What would be the fee? I would also need the same service when we land, would that be possible?
Somewhere around $40. When you arrive back at JFK just head to the taxi stand at ground transportation to get a taxi back to Bayside.

There are special taxis - minivans. The price is the same and they can accommodate 4 suitcases. Just let the taxi dispatcher know that you will need such a cab.

I was wondering how much does taxi cost to get to 120 E. 12th street, NY from JFK airport? I will arrive at JFK at 10p.m so it will be pretty late. Do I have to pay extra because it will be 12 p.m when i get to the destination?

Yellow cab will take you there and charge you on the meter - expect ~$40-$45.
The other alternative is public transportation.

Take a private van at Ground transportation(Welcome Center ) counter. It will cost $80-$120 depending on the availability and the company. Or two yellow cabs $50 flat fare each.

It would be very expensive(more than $400).
Instead you can take a direct shuttle , called Dave's Best Limo which cost around $60/passenger. The shuttle is door-to-door and it can be found at Ground Transportation (Welcome Center) counter located at each terminal.

Yellow cab will take you there for about $35-$40. No need to book it in advance - just go to the taxi line.

Taxi will cost you over $200. Take instead State Shuttle(with a stopover at EWR). You can find the shuttle at Ground transportation(Welcome Center) counter at each terminal. The shuttle departs every hour.

Dear, sir.
I took the taxi in the JFK airport at 11:30, 08-14-10.
It means that I went from terminal 8, JFK airport
to crowne plaza hotel by taxi.
The hotel address is 401, south van Brunt Street,
Englewood, NJ.
After I arrived at the hotel, I pay the total fare $96 (flat fare:$86 + toll fare : $8 + tip :$2) by the credit card. but he didn't turn on the meter.
At that time, I requested the receipt that it indicates the departure place and the arrival place. Because I'm in business trip and I'd like to ask the taxi fare to my company.
But If I don't have that receipt, I can't do such a thing. And I think that the taxi fare is very expensive.
Also We didn't go through the express way. I don't know why he ask me for the toll fee. Surely, We didn't go through the toll gate.
So what I wants are four things.
First, I wants to cancel the payment of taxi fare using the credit card.
Second, I wants to know what appropriate taxi fare is.
Third, Instead of cancelling the credit card payment,
I will pay by the cash.
Fourth, I wants to get the receipt.
Could you help me to do what I wants ?
