Taxis
Taxis are available at every terminal and there is a taxi stand where you will be directed to a taxi.
- use only taxis from the taxi dispatch booth (refuse offers for transportation from others)
- tipping is customary for good service (15 - 20%)
JFK Airport Taxi Fare
$2.50 upon entry
$0.40 for each additional unit
Unit fare:
- 1/5 of a mile, when the taxi is traveling at more than 6 miles/hour
- 60 seconds when not in motion or traveling at less than 12 miles/hour.
The taximeter willl combine fractional measures of distance and time in accruing a unit of fare. Any combination of distance or time shall be computed by the taximeter.
The fare shall include pre-assessment of the unit currently being accrued; the amount due may therefore include a full unit charge for a final, fractional unit.
Night surcharge of $.50: 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM
Peak hour Weekday Surcharge of $1.00: MON - FRI 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Tolls
Tolls enroute to destinations within New York City are the responsibility of the passenger. On all trips within the New York City, any bridge and tunnel tolls to the destination shall be paid by the passenger, who shall be informed before the start of the trip.
On all trips within the City of New York, return tolls shall not be charged except for trips over the Cross Bay Veterans, Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial, and Verrazano Narrows Bridges.
On trips beyond the City of New York, all necessary tolls to and from the destination shall be paid by the passenger.
Flat Fare from JFK Airport:
The Taxi & Limousine Commission is conducting a Flat Fare program for trips between (to and from) the Manhattan and JFK International Airport.
The flat fare is $45.00 plus any tolls. The meter will not be turned on and the night surcharge will not be added.
If passengers request multiple stops, the flat rate of $45.00 will be collected at the first stop in either Manhattan or John F. Kennedy Airport, and the meter will be turned on for the remainder of the trip. The metered fare should be collected at the last stop, from the last passenger.

Im flying in to JFK and was told the cheapest and sometimes the best way to get to my hotel on Long Island City is by train? Can someone please tell me how I can get from JFK airport to the Howard Johnson Inn Long Island on 3871 13th Street, and approximately how long is the train ride?

1. Take Airtrain from JFK to Jamaica Station
2. Take Subway line E to Roosevelt Ave.
3. Transfer to subway line F
4. Get off at 21st street stop.
5. Walk on 21st street towards 40th Ave and make left on 40th Ave.
6. Make right on 13th street - the hotel is right around the corner.
The train ride(from JFK to 21st street) is approximately 40-50 minutes.Plus another 10 minutes of walk.

Taxis are a flat rate of $45.00 to Manhattan. I'm going to East 88th Street in Manhattan, so it will be $45.00, correct?

how is price for taxi from JFK to Long Island City 21 street Best Western Plaza hotel? Is taxi the cheapest way for 4 persons?
The yellow cab will run on the meter . Expect to pay somewhere between $40 to $50 depends(for the whole cab which accommodates 4 people) on the traffic conditions. The other choice is to get Airtrain from JFK to Jamaica Station and then subway E to Roosevelt Ave, transfer to F and get off at 21 Str-Queens Bridge Station;the hotel is right around the corner; the price is $7.25 per person.

Take AIR TRAIN from JFK to Jamaica Station. Take a SUBWAY train from Jamaica to PENN Station ($2/person). Come out at PENN STation and take a cab to Marriott, only 1 mile, approx $10-12. ENJOY NYC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to take a taxi from JFK to Manhatten next week, but use the flat rate taxi. How can I identify the taxi company that offer this service.

follow signs from baggage claim to taxi stand...any of the 'regular' taxis that use the stand right outside the terminals should accept the 'flat rate'. In fact when I've done this usually there is someone there helping manage folks into the taxis, and they actually give you a slip of paper showing what the rate should be in case the cabbie tries to change things mid-stream. Note that the $45 flat rate to Manhattan does not include a tip.
If you have folks approaching/accosting you with "want a cab" type questions, these are most likely 'gypsy cabs' (unlicensed)...that may have a lower rate, and also that may be folks you really don't want to deal with. No license = no overview...would you get in a car with a stranger outside your house?
I want to know if a NY yellow cab will fit 4 adults and 4 pieces of luggage, if not will there be a mini van at the airport and if so how much will it be.

My partner and I are travelling to JFK (terminal 3) from Manchester, England in December of this year. Our flight is due to land at 3.30pm local time and we are just wondering how long it takes to get through customs? Can anyone advise what time we are likely to leave the airport?
I always allow about 40 minutes, but it depends on how full your flight is, whether any other flights have landed and how many desks are open. At 15:30 you should be OK. The good thing is the wait at security usually means your bags are waitng for you! Have a good trip....
Hi we will be arriving in FK airport at about 7.30pm on the 11th Nov and need to get to our hotel on W 39th Street. What is the best way? Shuttle, bus, taxi or train/subway? We are close to the Port Authority bus station so what about the NYAS bus? Looked on tripadvisor and many of the buses and shuttles get a real slating and yet they are so much cheaper than a taxi. But would we be better paying for a taxi? Is there likely to be a long queue at the taxi rank at that time of night?

Take air train to Jamaica and then LIRR to Pennstation. From there take a NJ Transit train that stops at Secaucus. At the train station call the hotel courtesy van for free pick up.
