By AirTrain/subway ($7.25); take AirTrain from your terminal to Jamaica Station, transfer to E subway to 7th Ave/53rd St, walk south one block on 7th Ave to 52nd St, turn right to your hotel just past the next intersection with Broadway .

I will be arriving at JFK on Nov. 9, 2010 and need to go to Northport, Long Island. Is there a shuttle service available? I will have a large duffle and do not think that I can take the Air Train and LIRR. How much would it cost?

You could try Super Shuttle shared-ride service at the ground transportation counter. You can take a luggage cart on AirTrain as far as Jamaica Station and transfer to LIRR to Northport (may require a transfer of trains at Hicksville). The trains have overhead racks that may accommodate your duffle.
