History - Construction of the airport began in 1942 with modest ambitions. Only 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land on the site of Idlewild golf course were earmarked for use. The golf course provided the airport's original namesake, Idlewild Airport. First commercial flights began on July 1, 1948. The airport was formally dedicated as New York International Airport on July 31, 1948. It was re-dedicated on December 24, 1963 as John F. Kennedy International Airport, following action of the Mayor and Council of the City of New York, and a resolution of the Commissioners of the Port Authority. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

I'm arriving at 8:30 pm, August 3 at Terminal 8 on an international AA flight from Paris. My next flight, on domestic AA to San Francisco from T8 is at 6:45 a.m, August 4.
- Can I wait at Terminal 8 overnight ?
- Do I have to pick up my luggage and recheck the bag, or will AA check the bags for the entire trip from Paris to San Francisco?

Check in time for China Airlines
Hi,
A group of us are arriving at LGA at noon on Wednesday (Jun 23) and are flying out of JFK on China Airlines at 11:55pm. I am wondering if you can tell me how early we can check our bags in (we plan to do online checkin the day before)? We don't mind paying to leave our carry on luggage at the left luggage place, but it'll be very expensive if we have to leave all of our checked baggage there as well. Hoping to transfer from LGA to JFK, check in at CI counter, deposit carry on at the left luggage place and then head into Manhattan for a few hours.
Any info provided is greatly appreciated!

You normally do not need to
You normally do not need to remove your shoes at customs/immigration. You do need to remove all footwear when going through the security checkpoint to the gates. When traveling it's always best to wear comfortable shoes, especially those that are easy on-easy off.

Hello, I am arriving in on SA into terminal 4 can you please advise if there are any lounges in the arrival side where I can shower and freshen up or if not hotels in the terminal I could contact for day room prices.

SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY AT JFK
Hi
I would like to know if there are any services available (for a charge or free) for elderly passengers. Like receive the traveler, board them on the plane and see them through the whole process, especially those in a wheelchair.
If available, how do I get them. My mom is traveling on the 19th via PIA from JFK and is very concerned how she will manage on her own. Any help, advise would be greatly appreciated.

travel time to NY and back to JFK
We are a group of 22 arriving at LaGuardia @ 15h00 on July 4 and transferring to JFK via NYAS. We depart for Tel Aviv @ 02h20 July 5. Do we have enought time to travel to NY City and will there be transport late in the evening to return back to JFK in time for our flight at 02h20?

Hi my flight arrives into terminal 4 at 4.40pm Virgin Atlantic. and my flight from T7 departs at 7.20pm do i have inof time to get to terminal 7 and how can i get there and how long does it take. please help

Is anything open in terminal 7 after midnight? We are flying to New York and meeting someone who is flying from London. We both arrive at terminal 7 but 2 hours apart. Is there a coffee shop open for them to wait until our flight arrives - United Airlines from L.A. arriving at 12.55am 15 June.

I have a return flight from JFK to London Heathrow airport. I am flying with Delta airlines and was just wondering what the maximum time before my flight i can check in? Also after i have checked in my luggage am i allowed to leave the airport? I am staying in Michigan but will only be returning to New York on the day of my flight; therefore i was hoping to arrive early and check-in my bags so i could have a couple hours to explore the city.

Hello,
I will be arriving at St. Louis -> JFK at 12:55pm with Delta and I have an AA flight to Costa Rica at 3:10pm. Will 2h be sufficient to make the transfer?
Also, what the process will be:
- collect my luggage
- do not leave transfer zone
- go to AA desk and check-in
- go to the gate

i'll be on a flight from Guatemala to JFK and will land on 2AM. is the passport control open at this time? a friend told my once that the passport control is opening at 5:30AM, and i wanted to make sure.
