Luggage assistance service
Hi,
My Mom, will be arriving from overseas into
JFK International airport at Terminal 4, then she will need to take a domestic flight at Terminal 5 on a non partner airline. She's injured her wrist and lower back. So when she arrives she would not be able to get and carry her 3 luggage on her own through pick-up bags point, check-in through security control, etc.)?
I called already the airlines and they don't have this
kind of luggage assistance service.
My question is: Do the JFK airport provide
luggage assistance service to help her with bags?
if yes who should I call and arrange this with?
If your mother is disabled
If your mother is disabled as a result of her injuries, she should notify both carriers and request assistance at both JFK terminals. The key is to use the word "disabled." The attendants provided (who will typically not be airline employees but contracted staff) should be able to assist with the luggage. JetBlue has a re-check desk after Customs in Terminal 4, so it's possible -- but not guaranteed -- that she would be able to check her bags in there. Best to call JetBlue and inquire about this. If she can re-check her bags at Terminal 4, then she probably won't need special assistance at at Terminal 5, and can just ride the AirTrain over there. If she can't re-check her bags at Terminal 4, then the attendant should be able to put her and her bags in a taxi for the very short ride from T4 to T5. Your mother should be prepared to generously tip the attendant, based upon the amount of time/effort that (s)he has to expend in rendering assistance.
The airport does not offer
The airport does not offer these services, they suggest you contact your airline. Hmmmm, one would think someone should provide some type of passenger assistance at JFK. Looks to me like all passenger services are arranged through the airlines so I would contact the airlines again, even if you have to call the airline locally at JFK. AirTrain is the usual mode of trasnport between terminals, besides AirTrain there is a service called Autolink for transportation between terminals however you must contact your airline at least 48 hours in advance of arrival for this service. Good luck dealing with the airlines again!
Which terminal?
Can you verify that Delta flight 149 from Heathrow arrives at Gate B26 (Terminal 4) tomorrow (July 27)...and that Delta Flight 2452 for Nashville departs Gate 25 (Terminal 2)?
I realize that gate assignments can change, but I am trying to identify the terminal for each flight, so I will be aware of where I need to go to make the connection.
