I am an Australian and I want to hire a car from JFK and travel around the USA and Canada for approx.7 weeks.
1. Can I hire in the US and travel to Canada as well.
2. What insurance do I need to take out to cover damage to the car I hire and to any other person or property.
We are from Australia also and arrived in New York in December then up to Boston where we hired the car and travelled through Canada for 3 weeks. You can receive coverage through your car rental, we used Thrifty (not recommended though) and paid $600.00 for coverage, so that might give you an idea of a price to beat or at least to go by.
When you say hire a car do you meant to hire a driver or rent a car?
If your meaning to rent a car, you simply need to contact a rental car company(hertz;enterprise;budget; avis and several more rental car companies). To cover the vehicle and persons etc. you will need the most expensive insurance LDW(I think it is called)usually runs about $30 per day. Some rental car companies might restrict that you drive to Canada so call to find which one will allow it.

I'll be arriving from Italy in march.
the name on my ticket flight is MARTA SARA ROSSI.
this name is incorrect, on my passport the name is just MARTA ROSSI.
the flight company (Alitalia) is telling me that I need to book a new flight becasue my current ticket (which is not refundable) is unvalid, seeing that I would be having problems once arrived at JFK.
But if my passport and my ESTA says the correct name, would it really matter?
It should be no problem. I assume that Sara is your middle name and airlines can either enter the information in their systems as Sara or just the letter S. Just in case I would recommend that you also bring along some other ID in which your middle name is indicated. In the future just book your flights using your names as it appears in your Passport.
I was told by Delta Airlines to be at JFK airport 3 hours early to check bags and clear security.
My flight to Rome leaves on a Saturday night from terminal 3 at JFK.
Why will it take three hours and is that enough time for a Saturday night flight in June?
All airlines and airports recommend you arrive at least 3 hours in advance for international departures to allow adequate time for check-in and to clear security. While it might not take that long it's always better to be early than late. In addition some airlines cut off check-in in 1 hour before departure.
I was primarily concerned about the process at terminal 3. I understand that the check in time there is unusually long due to limited staff by Delta. Is that correct?

I will be arriving on a Monday evening at 6:44pm on Delta from BTV (Terminal 3?) and switching airlines to Jetblue (Terminal 5) for a flight to DEN leaving at 9:09pm. I have two questions: 1. do I have to go through security again? 2. Is this enough time to make the transfer between the two terminals? I will not be checking any bags; I'll just have a carry on.

If anybody can help me on this it would be greatly appreciated. We are scheduled to arrive into Terminal 1 on Turkish from Istanbul at 3PM. This flight looks like it averages a 38 minute delay. We would like to catch a 5PM AA flight from Terminal 8 connecting to DFW. It's the last flight of the day that can get us to DFW. Or we can depart from LGA around 9PM.
Do we stand a decent chance of making the AA 5PM flight or should we just suck it up and reserve the 9PM flight from LGA? Thanks

I just came back to Ohio from outside the US
the problem is that:
this is my 4th time I enter the states: three from JFK and one from O'Hare, and every time I go through the line to get my passport stamped the officer tells me that I need to take you to the office. So when I go to the office I stay between 3-4 hours just waiting and sometimes they call me and ask me: what is your weight and height? what is your father and mother name?!
last night I was there and I missed my connection flight because of that check
I mean if it happens once it's alright, but it is the 4th time it happens, and for no clear reason
Please, how can I know the reason? knowing that all my papers are legal and I have a visa and I spent a considerable amount of time in the US!
Time between flights minimum 5 hours... and than ur not sure. CBP and all that security stuff is here to stay. Adaptation, planning and patience...
I can not find my parking ticket for short term terminal 8. What is the procedure to pay for my car?
My sister and niece are arriving in Terminal 8(via Qatar) and require assistance getting their luggage to Terminal 5(via Jet Blue). They have 4 big suitcases, carryons and laptop/bags...basically too much to put on a cart.
I've contacted the airlines to no avail. I've been told by friends that the porters do not transfer luggage terminal to terminal; so can anyone tell me if there is service offered by either the airline or JFK to assist in the transfer of luggage from terminal to terminal?

Spent 2 hours getting through last week after a 9hr flight customs officer had a disgusting attitude when we presented him with just the one custom form that we had been given. (by an american airline)
Apparently we should have had two as our surnames are different on our passports and we couldn't prove we were family even though we are married! He had none and set us to the back of the que to get another.
I had to make a scene and stomped through the que to get to the front again.
Hello. I'm arriving from Madrid to JFK Terminal 8 with AA at 1:10 PM and I have to take another flight with JetBlue at Terminal 5 at 03:55 PM. So I think I have to get my luggage and go through customs, is this far from the arriving gate? Also then I have to take the AirTrain till Terminal 5 and check in again with JetBlue. My father is arriving from Amsterdam at JFK Terminal 4.
He then has a connecting flight to Portland OR from Terminal 3. Both flights are with Delta.
It looks like he needs to take his bags after arrival to pass through Customs and Immigration.
My question is whether there will be a baggage drop off after Customs or whether he needs to re-check bags with Delta ? Does he need to do this at Terminal 4 or can he do this at Terminal 3 before preceding to Terminal 4 ?

We have a flight arriving from SFO to JFK at 8pm it is a delta airlines flight. Then we have to change to an other terminal to have another delta airlines flight but with Air France 1h30min after. Will it be possible to make the connection between those 2 flights ? Do we have to take back our luggages from the first terminal and to make the connection then re-checked in our luggages... ?

Can you take a later train? If you are arriving via international you will need at least one hour to clear customs and another hour for transit to Penn Station.
No, unfortunately it's the only train that goes to that destination. Guess I'll just have to travel by bus. Thanks for the answer.

Trains to Albany depart from New York's Pennsylvania ("Penn") Station in Manhattan. Service is provided by Amtrak. You can book the entire trip at www.amtrak.com by entering "JFK" as your origin station, and "ALB" as your destination station. The JFK to Manhattan segment would be on a bus. Another option is to get yourself from JFK to Penn station by taking a taxi, or by taking the JFK AirTrain to Jamaica Station, and then transferring to a Manhattan-bound "E" subway, or a Manhattan-bound Long Island Rail Road train to Penn Station. If you did that, your Amtrak booking would be from NYP to ALB. You may be able to get a discount on your train fare: Go to www.railserve.com to check for available Amtrak discounts.
If you want a less expensive option, Megabus provides daily bus service from the Penn Station area to the Albany train station. Travel time on the bus is about the same as it is on the train. Check bus fares and schedules at www.megabus.com.

I will be going with family to JKF airport terminal 4 and once I drop them at terminal, I will need to return the rental car at Budget. This is first time I'm using Airpot to Airport rental car.
I'm not sure how will I return back to terminal 4 after droping car at budget.
Please advice advice best way to come back to terminal 4 after return.

Take the AirTrain from the rental car locations at Federal Circle to T4, it's free.
I have family coming from Hungary on American Airlines, coming into JFK. They have 1hr 15min to go through customs and catch their connecting flight to Cleveland, again using American Airlines. Where will they go, to go through customs? Is there a customs port in Terminal 8? It seems like American Airlines comes and goes from Terminal 8 (is that right?), and we're wondering if they're going to have enough time to go through customs and get on their connecting flight in and hour and fifteen minutes...they're a family of 4.
Don't think they have enough time. While there is a customs facility at T8 and American Airlines is based at T8 they will need to allow at least one hour to clear customs and then go to the departure level to clear security to get to the gates. If they have checked luggage they will pick up to clear customs and then take them to the connecting flights counter. Suggest they find a later connecting flight.
