This is what's wrong with
This is what's wrong with our country! A man is reprimanded for being a good dad and taking care of his children! To the people who made this decision - do you mean to tell me you never went to work with your parents? If not, then I guess you truly missed out. The kids were not running the tower by themselves! They were experiencing what their Dad does to put food on their table. He is a role model to them. Your company should be ashamed of itself! If he is not reinstated, I will never step foot in your airport again. I give my business to businesses who support american families!!
You people need a reality check.....
Let me say this, first of all thank GOD there wasn't an accident, but let say there was an accident (up in the air) during this event, the very first thing you people would say is "Oh my god, we are being attack again, this is a terrorist attack." You people need a reality check.
Air Traffic Controller
I would like to comment on the Air Traffic Controller issue. I was a 911 dispatcher for 10 years. While we never let our kids talk on the radio, we were always encouraged to allow our kids to come into the dispatch center for short periods of time. This enabled them to learn what we did and understand why mom or dad may come home a little stressed from time to time. I thought it was cute to hear the kids on the radio, but in this PC correct world we live in it can't be done anymore. Don't forget to make sure your kids don't say a prayer or take their bible to school. I think it is our duty as Americans to be a little less judgemental and a little more supportive. You can be assured that the gentleman was watching what was happening and would have quickly moved his children out of the way if he needed to.
You fired a great father
You fired a great father
Do you know, that your stupid act is not only on the internet, but also made it into the evening news in germany?
If you have read the other comments on your website you will have noticed, that I am not the only one who thinks that fireing that person was a stupid idea.
I guess you should think about this decision again give him back his job.
If you are lucky the news will report about that too.
FUTURE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER
What a horrible comment on our society and our airports. . .
You have a future employee (albeit he is still a kid) in that little boy. What a wonderful experience for a child to be with his father and doing a very important job. Instead of embracing a situation, you reprimand and punish the father. Now in the eyes of his child, JFK Airport management look like jerks. You turned a good experience into a bad one for this little guy. I heard the transcript, as a layman, he did an outstanding job for a 9 year old. Management should be ashamed of themselves. No wonder airlines are hurting. Customer service, along with humanity has gone out the window. I understand about security issues, but you should have faith in your employees. I'm sure the father (employee) was with his son at all times and had the situation was well under control. I'm sure he takes (or should say took) his job seriously and wouldn't allow any harm to come to anyone, including his son. Bad move...
Really?
Are you all kidding me? So if its okay for a 9 year old to direct the path of a multi-million dollar plane, full of innocent passengers is it okay for a 9 year to operate on you? No,no really. I'm sure the father would take the same precaution as a doctor as this father had. He will let him "observe" several operations, they'll practice a couple of times, even better he'll take his job "so seriously" he will even let his son meet the patient sporting miniature scrubs and all before the procedure! Albeit in reality the young man may just get to make the first incision but, it'll still be a great experience! Right??? Yeah that's what I thought!
I think perhaps a severe
I think perhaps a severe reprimand is in order for the controller...an airport is no place to "play".
Perhaps not a firing, more of an "ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???"
My dad wouldn't let us go into the Xerox room in his office, let alone sit in on a meeting!
I flew a plane at age 6!!
My father was a pilot at a commercial airline we well know today and on a "take your child to work day" I went flying with my dad on a 180 passenger plane! He taught me a couple of things and let me sit in the captain's seat and fly which instilled a passion which drew me to get my own private flying license when I was 16. I think that if the father was in full control of the situation and traffic was slow then why not! With the current ATC crisis(which I know well given my husband is an air traffic controller) we need to inspire young generations to love the ATC job if not we need to start inventing robots that will do the job when all the controllers retire!
little boy in the control tower
Wow! What has it all come down to???!!! I see nothing wrong with what this dad and supervisor have done. That little guy did a great job repeating what his dad had surely told him....hellllooooo...... Shame on the people that take these guys jobs away! I thought it was very commendable that a dad of this day and age would be willing to take the time to share his life and knowledge with his son. Come on people....don't make it out to be something so horrific....Kudos to the dad and supervisor:)
My sentiments, exactly!
My sentiments, exactly! What is this world coming to! My support and sympathy goes out to the wonderful father who is teaching his son to be a hardworking American...what a shame the press and FAA are making such a big deal of this. They should be ashamed of themselves for vilifying this father over such a little thing. No one was put in danger, traffic was not delayed or confused, and it bothered no one but some stuffy officials.
It is completely and 100%
It is completely and 100% illegal for him to have his kid directing flights up there, especially after 9/11. JFK was acting in complete accordance of it's rules when they fired him; he made a stupid mistake. While obviously no harm was done, people should never be exempt from rules just because what they're doing might be "cute." A rule is a rule, and a law is a law.

Jeeeez talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.
Child in Control Tower
Just an opinion from a member of the flying public:
You should stand behind your employee. After hearing the facts in this case, it really seems that it has been blown out of proportion. We are becoming such a nation of tightly wound idiots. It would be a crying shame if someone lost their job over this situation. He's obviously very good at his job or he wouldn't be working at JFK. I feel completely confident putting myself in the hands of the air traffic controllers at JFK, whether they have their children stop in for the day or not.
What our children need to develop into independent, well-developed adults is another subject all together. Exposing your child to your workplace and responsibilities is a wonderful way to help them understand the realities of life and their developing role as a contributing human being. More people should do what this parent did. Kudos to the other people in the tower who recognized this and helped enable it to happen.
Child on the tower of course.... :)
I'm agree that fired the ATC and his supervisor for it , it is not of my point of view a good thing , we must replace all this in its context , a kid supervised by an ATC perform his job , how many times childs follow his parent to see and "do" their job, discover their world.
We are in the USA , were all is possible .... ;)
