once you arrive in us you must immediately go through immigrations before being allowed to transfer to another airplane/airline.

If you have to change plane, then you will probably have to go through immigration, but if you're staying on the same plane and it's only making a stop at JFK then you shouldn't have to go through immigration.

Yes you will have to go through customs

I think you will not have to deal with JFK Airport immigration.

I think you will have to do immigration still, if its a stop over (same plane or not) you still have to do immigration in USA at JFK

Just returned from Jamaica to JFK,and realized that christmas cards which were in my checked luggage were ripped open, and money taken from them. Had I known that my Aunt who was vacationing from England had placed money in the envelopes, I would have put them in my hand luggage instead. However what reason is there why I shouldn't have placed the power cord for my laptop in my checked luggage? Called AA and was told they could only apologize. I told the rep that I would be reporting it to channel 7 news and only then she gave me the number to the 'luggage pilferage dept' What a shame!

This happens all the time at JFK. Although most baggage handlers are hones, there are some at this airport who are not. I had a large carry-on gate checked, it was loaded and when I arrived at my destination, my IPOD was gone! The baggage handler obviously dug through my bag while loading it, THIEF!

Very surprise to hear this. I thought this only happens in third world countries.

well maybe its something to do with illegally un-declaring it even if you didn't know; you should have after all, passengers should know everything in their luggage. Thats what they'll probably tell you

On the evening of 20.12.2009 in "Gate 10" of terminal 1 I have lost my digital photo camera CASIO in a small black case.

I am trying to locate some baggage for one of our Naval heroes, and have been told by American Airlines that JFK will not take any calls or even answer questions about lost baggage in customs. This person has been serving in Afghanistan and his return home has been less than hospitable. Any suggestions on how I can get some help from the folks at JFK? Thanks
