Does the air train operate all day? I heard that the Airtrain is basically shutdown. How long will it take me to go from terminal 5 to terminal 8 by air train?

Sorry my bad. An air train is shut down until Friday August 19th and after that should be operating as normal. Usually it takes about 2 minutes at most to get from one terminal to the other. Now to get from one terminal to the other JFK has bus shuttles that will provide transportation between each terminal.

Waiting at Terminal 4
I arrive with Jet Blue at 13:20, my departure from Terminal 4 to Europe is at 21:25. Any suggestions how to spend this time gap other than reading a book. Access to Airport lounges is pretty expensive for two persons, is there a cheaper alternative?
Terminal 4 has nice food

Hello, I fly tomorrow with 3 small children
august 12th with delta (DL 4129)from
Raleigh RDA and arrive at JFK at 14.59. I then fly to Barcelona at 18.00 with DL 94.
When I bought the tickets, I landed and departed from terminal 3.
When I checked yesterday delta online, I now land at terminal 2 and leave from terminal 3.
I got an email today from Delta messenger. I land at terminal 2 and leave from terminal 4.
Which one is correct?
If I land at terminal 2 and leave from terminal 4, do we have time to catch the flight? Is there a shuttle? Security?

If both flights take place
If both flights take place at terminal 2/3 then it only involves walking short distance from one gate to the other. No security or shuttle involved in this case. You will need to take shuttle bus if first flight is at terminal 3 then terminal 4.

Dear JFK specialist, I am sending a student to BOSTON next Friday (August 12. He is arriving at JFK and then going to Boston. He is very afraid of not knowing where to go. I have already seen that he is going to arrive from Brazil and depart to Boston from terminal 3 (DELTA Terminal). Once he is cleared from customs does he need to check his luggage in again?
