Latest TSA Security Directives

3-1–1 for Carry-ons

Air travelers may now carry liquids, gels and aerosols in their carry-on bag when going through security checkpoints.

With certain exceptions for prescription and over-the-counter medicines, baby formula and breast milk, and other essential liquids, gels, and aerosols, the following rules apply to all liquids, gels, and aerosols you want to carry through a security checkpoint.

3–1–1 for carry-ons

  • 3 ounce bottle or less
  • 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag
  • 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin.

One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measur

Come early and be patient. Heavy travel volumes and the enhanced security process may mean longer lines at security checkpoints.

Updates to the TSA Security Requirements(effective November 10, 2006):

Latest security bans according to the TSA Security Directives

Summary of Security Directive Changes for Flights departing from and within the U.S.

  • Effective November 10, 2006, the TSA has advised that travelers may now carry through security checkpoints travel-size toiletries (3.4 ounces/100 ml or less) that fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic re-sealable bag. At the security checkpoint passengers will be asked to remove the clear plastic re-sealable bag from their accessible baggage and place it in a separate bin or on the conveyor belt for screening. X-raying these items separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items. In addition, prescription liquid, gel and aerosol medications, baby formula/milk/food, and diabetic glucose treatments must be declared at the checkpoint for additional screening if they are not included in the ONE QUART clear plastic re-sealable bag.

  • Passengers who attempt to bring undeclared liquids, gels, or aerosols into the sterile area without providing to the TSA for separate screening may be subjected to secondary screening.

  • Passengers who purchase liquids, gels, and/or aerosols in the sterile area are now allowed to take them onboard the aircraft.

  • Duty Free liquids, gels, and/or aerosols purchased inside the sterile area may be brought onboard the aircraft by passengers, and no longer must be delivered to the aircraft.

Summary of Security Directive Changes for Flights departing from non-U.S. (except the UK)

    • Liquids, gels, and/or aerosols are not carried into the sterile area through the screening checkpoint AND
    • Passengers do not mingle with other passengers who have not been screened to enter the sterile area.
    • If both of the aforementioned points cannot be ensured, liquid, gel or aerosol Duty Free items must be delivered to the passenger onboard the aircraft or as he/she boards the aircraft.

While at the security gate of terminal 3 DL airlines. I lost my Nikkon blac camera in the security tray. I hope you can assist me in this very important matter. My camera carries no real financial value but a lot of valuable memorable moments and unfortunately I cannot review many of them anymore.I was on flight DL 4184 JFK-YYZ on April 1st 2012. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Just had a total knee replacement. Will I have any problems going through customs. It is titanium and plastic.

You might have problems. Just to be safe please provide a note from your doctor regarding knee replacement.

Dear Sirs.
My name is Mikhail Nadezhkin. I'm from Russia.
At March 11, 2012 I bought 4 iPhones 4S in Apple Store.
At March 15, 2012 I flew back from New York to Russia. When I checked in my luggage at JFK, all iPhones were in my bag. But in Moscow I discovered that there were only 2 iPhones in my bag. Maybe the rest phones were confiscated at customs or stolen.
In case of these phones were confiscated what I have to do to return my iPhones?

can i carry more than one hard disk say 2 in my hand luggage ??

No.

I am arriving AA from Canada at JFK Terminal 8 at 1:10 PM. I only have carry-on bags, no check-in bags. I need to connect flight at Terminal 4 Air India at 3 PM.

(a) Since this is a transit situation just for connecting flights between 2 terminals, do I have to go through security and custom immigration again at Terminal 4 ?

(b) Since I have carry-on bags, how much time is needed if I have to clear custom & immigation, and security again at Terminal 4 again ?

Thank you in advance.

a)you will clear US customs prior to departure from your Canadian airport so no need to clear customs on arrival at JFK.
b)Your AA flight will arrive at T8, take AirTrain on track 2 from T8 to T4. You will need to clear security at terminal 4 and if you have your Air India boarding pass you can by-pass check in. If your AA arrival is on time you should have enough time transfer terminals, clear security and make it to the gate.

On Saturday night Feb 4th I had a 2 hour layover from StMartin to Boston. We moved right along going thru customs until we reached your security. As I went thru I set off the alarm which I expected because I've had both my knees replaced. I've flown before so I expected to have the body search. The woman who checked me out was so extremely slow that it took 45 minutes to get checked out. When she completed she said " If you think this took to long maybe you should complain and we'll get more help." Well, I don't think you need more help I think you need to fire her and get new help.

I was in the JetBlue area on Feb 4th about 10:30 or 11. The woman was probably mid 50s, heavy, and had long dark hair with gray in it and pulled back in a braid.

I appreciate it if you'd answer this mail and let me know if there's anything else you need.

Thank You,

DGiblin

My wife just received an immigrant visa (CR-1) to live with me here in the U.S. My question is, after she picks up her luggage, which immigration line does she enter? I suspect she will use the U.S.Citizen/Permanent Resident line. Would this be correct?

Probably visitor entrance.

Was a USB thumbdrive found at about 3:00 PM, 26 December, in security control check point near Delta Airlines gate (JFK Airport)?

If so, how can I get it back?

I am overseas now, but will return on 1 Jan. to JFK.

My Email is: tworrom@verizon.net

Thanks,

I am arriving on terminal 7 from london via british airways then I have a connecting flight from terminal 8 of american airlines..

Please help me with the following:
1. Do I need to carry all my luggage all the way terminal 8 via air train?
2. If No, then how can I avoid it and instead just carry the check-in bag? Is there any counter at terminal 7 of american airlines?

Will I be allowed to carry one prefilled injectible sealed syringe with needles onto the airplane in my carry-on luggage? This is Clexane meds for my husband which he has to take immediately on arrival after our 16 hr non-stop flight to prevent another pulmonary embolism (blood clot)which he got previously from flying.

I forgot to leave my small multitool and pepper mint spray. I had no check in bag. When passing security, they said these things are not allowed. I understand that I should leave them. But they threw them away. I want my things back. I told them to keep it in the airport until I come back. Those are my properties. They shouldn't have authority to throw my things. Those things are for my self defense because I come back late at night time alone. If something happens, they are responsible for that. Where and who should i complaint about it? I'm really not satisfied with that.
