JFK International Airport AirTrain
AirTrain JFK is the train service that operates between JFK
International Airport, Long Island Rail Road trains and New York City Subway.
It also serves as an on-airport service connecting the airline terminals, rental
car facilities, hotel shuttles, and airport parking lots.
Air Train JFK has
3 routes:
- Howard Beach route
The Howard Beach route ends at the Howard Beach-JFK subway station. It stops
at Lefferts Boulevard (connecting transit services - B15 bus) for shuttle buses
to long term parking lots A and B and to airport employee parking.
Connecting transit services: A subway train, Q11 bus
- Jamaica Station route
The Jamaica route ends at Jamaica Station on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
next to the Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue-JFK subway station (to Brooklyn
and Manhattan or Queens).
Connecting transit services: E, J and Z subway
trains, Q6, Q8, Q9, Q20A, Q20B, Q25/Q34, Q30, Q31, Q40, Q43, Q44, Q60 and
Q65 buses
Both routes make a counterclockwise loop through the airport and stop at each
terminal.
- Airline Terminal route
The Airline Terminal route connects 6 terminal stations (Terminal 1, 2-3,
4, 5-6, 7 and 8-9). Route operates in the opposite direction, making a clockwise
loop.
All JFK AirTrain stations are wheelchair accessible. Howard Beach subway and
Jamaica Long Island Railroad stations are wheelchair accessible too.

JFK is not that close to
JFK is not that close to Manhattan, but you have some free time. (remember you have to be back 2 hrs prior to departure). You can take the Air Train to the NYC Subway and then take the A train toward Manhattan (Uptown) this will take you about 1 hour and 1/2. You can get off at Fulton street station OR Wall street subway station and see the location where the Twin Towers used to be at, and a little shopping at Centry 21 outlet. You can also continue on the Subway and get off the Times Square or 34th treet etc...it all depends on what you want to see while you are here. The subway, you have to buy a metro card, each trip is $2.25 and the Air train costs $5.00 one way. You can use Hop Stop website or the MTA website to plan your trip. getting to manhattan and back
How can i get from JFK to Manhattan and from where on Manhattan can I go to JFK? How ong will take a one-way trip? Thanks.
Taxi each way is
Taxi each way is $45+tolls+tip. At JFK go to the ground transportation level of the terminal and take a NYC yellow taxi, travel time can take up to one hour or more depending on traffic. In Manhattan simply flag down a taxi on the street or from your hotel. Public transportation; A, J or E subway, or LIRR from Penn Station will take you to AirTrain at Jamaica (E, J subway and LIRR) or Howard Beach (A subway) and then take AirTrain to all terminals.

If you do decide to go by train, do not confuse "Princeton" station with "Princeton Junction" station. Fares to Princeton are a little higher than fares to Princeton Junction, and the trip requires a connection to the shuttle train that runs between Princeton Junction and Princeton.
Take AirTrain on track 1
Take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Jamaica Station, transfer to either E subway or LIRR to Penn Station, transfer to NJ Transit-NE Corridor train to Princeton.

Follow signs in terminal to Airtrain. Take Airtrain on track 1 marked "Jamaica Station". At Jamaica Station transfer to LIRR to Ronkonkoma. When you exit AirTrain you can purchase both Airtrain and LIRR fare on one ticket from the self-service machines. There are nice people there to assist you.

Taxi is fastest and most direct, will cost around $50 for both of you. You can take the Airtrain/LIRR ($11.75/$13.25 peak each) but will require a few transfers and some walking, here are directions: take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Jamaica Station, transfer to LIRR to Atlantic Terminal-Brooklyn, transfer to the Bronx-bound #2 or #3 subway four stops to Clark St, walk three blocks towards the river on Clark to Columbia Heights, turn right and go 1-1/2 blocks.

Taxi would be most direct, fare is on the meter about $50. By subway: take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Howard Beach Station ($5), transfer to inbound A subway to Jay St/Metro Tech, transfer to the Coney Island-bound F subway to 15th St/Prospect Park ($2.25).

AirTrain to Howard Beach station; then, Manhattan-bound "A" train to Hoyt-Schermerhorn station. At Hoyt-Schermerhorn, transfer to a Church Street-bound "G" train to 15th Street-Prospect Park station. Your destination should be less than a five-minute walk from there. Allow about one hour for the trip.
