IATA code - JFK

ICAO code - KJFK

Operated by - The airport has been operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey under a lease with New York City since 1947.

History - Construction of the airport began in 1942 with modest ambitions. Only 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land on the site of Idlewild golf course were earmarked for use. The airport was formally dedicated as New York International Airport on July 31, 1948. It was re-dedicated on December 24, 1963 as John F. Kennedy International Airport, following action of the Mayor and Council of the City of New York, and a resolution of the Commissioners of the Port Authority. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

Having travelled out of JFK on Wednesday 26th May after a most enjoyable visit to New York I have to comment that the baggage handler on duty was the most rudest and unhelpful person I encountered on the whole trip. By comparison the young woman who checked me in was extremely pleasant, well mannered and a credit to the airport.

Would you think it is possible to transfer from two terminals of JFK to take these two flights ?

The first is VX 0404 and lands at J.F.K Int. (Terminal 4), 15 august 15:40, and the second is Finnair OYJ, Flight 6, which departs at 17:40.

Are two hours considered sufficient to retrieve the luggage, go through the customs, transfer to the other terminal and check in for the 2nd flight before it closes ?

As I booked the two tickets separately, I do not think I can have my luggage transfered directly from one plane to the other.

Thanks for taking the time to read my question

Hello everyone here...It is a good opportunity to get some important information from here. My QUESTION is: I am arriving from London at NY, JFK - Terminal 7 (British airways) at 20:30 p.m. and i need to go immediately to Grand Central Station with train/metro...not renting a car or taxi!! What are the exact steps...How should i know which train to get to Jamaica, i thing that must be?
Thanx a lot! Best regards.

Take Airtrain from your terminal to Jamaica Station (be sure to take the Airtrain marked Jamaica Station). Transfer to the E subway, get off at Lexington/53rd St. and transfer to the downtown #6 subway to Grand Central/42nd St. You can also take the NYAS bus from your terminal to Grand Central however it may stop running after 11pm.

I´m arriving at the airport with my family at 8:30 am
( July 14Th)and We have to take the flight to London at 21:00. So we have a lot of time, Is it possible to go out of the airport and visit Manhattan for some hours if we all of us have tourist visas or are we going to spend a lot of time in customs or inmigration ? what is the fastest way to go to Manhattan from the airport?

We´re landing with Icelandair at Terminal 7, time 7:00 pm and have to get to JetBlue flight for Orlando at 9:36 pm. Is that enough time and how much does it cost to get from one terminal to JetBlue’s terminal.

Regards Bjössi.

I'm arriving just after midnight, June 16 at Terminal 8 on an AA flight. My next flight, also on AA and I think from T8 is at 5:45a.m. Can I wait at Terminal 8 overnight, or is there an all night restaurant at JFK I could go to. Really don't want to get a hotel for such a short time. Thank you.

I'm flying from Italy to JFK airport on friday 28th may. My flight - I'm travelling with Delta Air Lines - will land in JFK at 5:15 pm.

I wonder what is the best way to get to our home in 189 6th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217, USA by public transport.

Could you also tell me how long lasts the "journey" from the airport to the apartment?

Thank you very much for your assistance.
Stefano

By public transportation will take about 45 minutes; take Airtrain from your terminal to Jamaica station and transfer to LIRR to Atlantic Ave. Transfer to the D, M (rush hour only) N or R subway, get off at Union St./4th Ave., walk two blocks to 6th Ave. and turn left. Taxi will cost about $40 and take 30-45 minutes depending on Friday evening traffic.

2 of us are leaving JFK in August by Singapore Airlines. The airline allows 2 x 23kg bags per person, but usually combine weights between the 2 of us (eg, if we have 2 x 23kg and 1 x 35kg). Will you allow combined weights like this or do we need to purchase an extra suitcase and divide the weights?

I am arriving on Royal Air Maroc from Casablanca and will be traveling with my dog who will be in a kennel in the cargo hold. Where will I pick him up? At baggage claim or somewhere else? Thank you.
