Is there a smoking area anywhere at JFK? We'll be staying at the airport for several hours inbetween flights (Brussels-Cancun), or are we allowed to go outside during our stay?

Could I (student) refund sale taxes in the JFK before the taking off?

Are there any on-going construction projects (i.e. Jet Blue terminal) that would delay an incoming flight from California or make pick-up/drop-off confusing??

i am flying into JFK late thursday night. my connecting flight won't be until 6:45 a.m. the next day. do i need to leave the airport and come back in for that? or are some terminals open 24/7?

I had the same situation last year. You actually can't go to your gate for your morning flight until that morning, so I would recommend finding a hotel. JFK is kind of far from the city, so be sure to allot plenty of time to get back though.

My parents are coming from overseas in late August and they need to pick up their luggage go to customs and catch their connecting flight. Those workers that hang around with carts where people wait to pick up luggages, i think they are called porter services, will they take my parents to the terminal where they need to go? thanks for any input.

our flight from Paris - Air France arrives at 3:45pm. Do we have enough time to get through customs to our flight to Charlotte - US Airways - Terminal 7 departing at 5:50pm or should I book a later flight.

2 hours??? seems to be cutting it really close. if it's on a different itinerary (ie, you didn't book both flights at the same time, on the SAME TICKET) then you have to also go through security all over again.
and you're assuming it will be on time. wishful thinking.
I'd book something later.

I am flying from JFK in late July. I am now able to travel 10 days earlier. If I come to the gate agent at the baggage check can I get on an earlier flight if there are seats open?
thanks!

We arrive into terminal 3 via Delta Connection, leave out of terminal 7 via Icelandair, how do we get between the two terminals? We will be traveling for two months, so we will have 4 large suitcases.

Hi

We are arriving in New York from Amsterdam at 3:25pm New York Time. We are trying to book a flight to Austin, TX. But how much time do we have to have between these two flights? Is it possible to take the 5:50pm flight??

Please help

- Nanna & Peter

You should be able to make that flight at 5:50. Hurry to get through immigration. Flights to Austin after 5:50 pm. go overnite. We live in Austin and will be arriving from Kiev at 5 pm, hence must spend the night at JFK.
Good luck and welcome to Austin. A wonderful city.

Hi,
I'm flying San Diego to JFK to Paris all on American Airlines on Monday June 15th. The only thing is that my layover in JFK is 41 minutes long in Terminal 8 (arrive 5:04pm Gate 3, depart 5:45pm Gate 39). I was advised to not check in luggage since it probably wouldn't make the plane transfer in time.
-So I should not check in a bag?
-Also, will I have to go through security again to get to my next flight?
-Does anyone know how long before an American Airlines international flight that boarding ends and they close the door to the plane?
-Should I call AA to let them know ahead of time of my tight schedule or would they already know I'm just getting off a plane in Terminal 8?
Thanks! (hoping I make the flight..)

I would ask AA about that b/c I dont think a 41min connection time will be enough for you to run to baggage claim then back through international security. Personally, would check the bag & let AA worry about it (& if the bag does not make the connection, it is AAs responsibility to get it to you). Rather than missing your flight & paying extra fees to hop on the next flight out.

I´m flying from LA and arriving JFK at 15.00, to terminal 4. My international flight is leaving from terminal 8 at 17.40.

Is this 2 h 40 min. to change planes too short???

I was told that I don´t need to pick up my luggage at JFK at all, that they are put straight through towards my final destination, so do I go straight to terminal 8 and is there a "Transfer" desk or do I need to go to the check-in again?
