After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

I will be arriving United States from Italy tomorrow I'll be travelling on Alitalia and will be landing at 1,55 PM and have a American Airlines flight to D.C. at 4,55
Do I have to clear Immigration before catching a Flight to Washington ?
If Yes, then will that be fair amount of time to clear immigration and other formalities at the Airport and catch a flight or does it requires more time?

Yes you have to clear immigration and it may take you up to one hour.

Hi-
I'm arriving into JFK from Port Au Prince on Delta at 6:27pm and connecting to JetBlue at 8:29pm. It's not ideal but the only connection that doesn't force me to overnight. Do you think I can make it?

Yes.
