JFK Terminal 5 – JetBlue

JetBlue operates primarily from Terminal 5 (T5) at John F. Kennedy International Airport. If you are flying JetBlue from JFK, Terminal 5 is the terminal you will normally use for check-in and departures. Most JetBlue arrivals also use Terminal 5, although some late-night international arrivals are handled at Terminal 4.

Terminal 5 is JetBlue's primary JFK terminal and one of the airport's busiest passenger terminals. It provides JetBlue check-in, baggage, security and departure facilities, together with restaurants, shops, passenger services and access to the JFK AirTrain.

JetBlue Arrivals at JFK Terminal 5

Most JetBlue arrivals at JFK use Terminal 5. After leaving the aircraft, follow the airport signs for baggage claim, ground transportation, AirTrain connections or the terminal exit.

If you are making a connection after an international arrival, additional procedures may include immigration, customs, baggage collection and another security screening before your onward flight.

JetBlue Departures at JFK Terminal 5

JetBlue departures at JFK use Terminal 5. Passengers should follow airport signs for T5 and proceed to the JetBlue check-in, bag-drop and security areas.

Gate assignments and departure information can change. Check your boarding pass and the airport information displays on the day of travel.

JetBlue Check-in and Bag Drop at JFK

JetBlue passengers departing from JFK should check in at Terminal 5. Depending on your itinerary and baggage, you may be able to complete part of the check-in process before arriving at the airport.

Passengers with checked baggage must follow JetBlue's current bag-drop procedures and applicable baggage deadlines. Check JetBlue's current requirements for your specific flight, especially when traveling internationally.

JetBlue Gates at JFK Terminal 5

Terminal 5's gates are located in several sections of the terminal. The official JFK walking estimates below indicate approximately how long it can take to walk from the security area to different gate groups.

Terminal 5 Gates Approximate Walk from Security
501–507 3–5 minutes
508–521 5–10 minutes
522–530 3–7 minutes

These are approximate walking times and can vary with crowds, walking speed and your exact starting point. Always check the airport displays for your current gate.

JetBlue Baggage Claim at JFK Terminal 5

JetBlue passengers arriving at Terminal 5 should follow signs for Baggage Claim after leaving the gate area. The carousel assigned to your flight can change, so check the airport information screens after arrival.

For delayed, damaged or missing checked baggage, contact JetBlue and follow the airline's baggage-service procedures.

Security at JFK Terminal 5

Departing passengers must complete the required security screening before entering the Terminal 5 gate area. Security wait times can vary significantly depending on the time of day, passenger volume and travel season.

TSA PreCheck and CLEAR services are available at JFK, although operating hours and availability can change. If you depend on an expedited screening service, check its current availability before traveling.

After security, allow additional time to reach your gate. Current JFK estimates put the walk from security to the T5 gate areas at approximately 3–10 minutes, depending on the gate.

How to Get to JFK Terminal 5

JFK AirTrain

The JFK AirTrain connects JFK's passenger terminals as well as Jamaica and Howard Beach transportation hubs. AirTrain travel between the passenger terminals is free.

If you arrive at another JFK terminal and need to reach Terminal 5, AirTrain is normally the most convenient way to transfer between terminals.

Driving to Terminal 5

Follow airport signs for Terminal 5 when approaching JFK. Because the airport is undergoing a major redevelopment program, road configurations and terminal access can change.

Parking for Terminal 5

For current parking locations, rates and reservation options, see our JFK Airport Parking Guide.

Taxi and Ride-App Pickup

Taxi and ride-app pickup arrangements can change during the JFK redevelopment. Follow airport signs and the instructions provided by your ride-app after arriving at Terminal 5.

JFK Terminal 6 and JetBlue: What Is Changing?

Terminal 6 is one of the biggest changes at JFK in 2026. The new terminal is being developed directly alongside and in connection with Terminal 5, creating an expanded terminal complex for JetBlue and other airlines.

JetBlue remains primarily based at Terminal 5, while Terminal 6 is opening in phases. JetBlue is expected to expand operations into the new terminal as the redevelopment progresses, with airline and gate changes taking place on a rolling schedule.

If your itinerary involves both Terminal 5 and Terminal 6, check the current airport signs and your airline's instructions for the day of travel.

Connecting from Terminal 5 to Another JFK Terminal

If your connecting flight leaves from another JFK terminal, check the terminal of the operating airline, particularly when your itinerary involves a codeshare flight.

The JFK AirTrain connects the passenger terminals and is free when traveling between terminals.

For example, if you arrive on JetBlue at Terminal 5 and connect to an airline at Terminal 4, the physical terminal transfer is only part of the time you need to allow. Depending on your itinerary, you may also need additional security screening, immigration, customs or baggage procedures.

Can You Walk Between Terminal 4 and Terminal 5?

Travelers sometimes ask whether they can walk between JFK Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. Airport construction and pedestrian routes can change, so a walking route that worked previously may not be the best option today.

For a time-sensitive connection, the AirTrain is generally the more predictable terminal-transfer option.

Is JFK Terminal 5 Open 24 Hours?

JFK Airport operates around the clock, but individual Terminal 5 services do not necessarily operate 24 hours a day. Airline counters, security checkpoints, restaurants, shops and other facilities can have their own operating schedules.

If you are traveling very early or late at night, check your JetBlue flight information and the operating hours of any specific service you need before arriving.

JFK Terminal 5 Map and Gate Layout

Terminal 5 has multiple gate areas connected to the central passenger facilities. Walking times from security vary according to the gate, with current estimates generally ranging from approximately 3 to 10 minutes.

Gate assignments can change. Use your boarding pass and the airport information screens for the latest gate information.

I flew from BTV to JFK on 9/19 flight 33 landing at 3:34pm. I left a black laptop bag with handles with a laptop and 3 books and a cellphone charger either on the plane or in the terminal at JFK. My name is not on the items but the laptop has a an octopus sticker on it and I can identify the books that are in the pocket.

If this is found, please reach out to tuck.burns@gmail.com
