You have enough time. Catch the airtrain, it'll take a minute to go from one terminal to the other. Just be clear of you need to pick luggage at T3 or
if it's gonna be directly sent to your new flight. I guess it will be first, so do immigration, pick your lugagge and follow the directions to airtrain.

What do I do with the luggage?
QUESTION: I will arrive in Terminal 4 coming from Europe (going to Columbus through JFK). Airline told me that before I will go through customs I will have to pick up my luggage. After I will go through the Security do I give my luggage back to be transferred to another flight? Or do I take it with me to the Air Train to go to Terminal 3 and give my luggage away there, near the gate (where I will catch the next flight)? I will greatly appreciate any helpful reply. Thank you.

Here are the general procedures to follow:
1. Clear the US immigration.
2. Pick up your luggage from the carousel.
3. Clear the US customs.
4. Surrender your luggage to your airline staff on duty, who usually wait for the transfer passengers right after the customs. They'll take your luggage from there and direct it to the right destination.
5. You board the AirTrain to the approriate terminal.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Would it be faster for me (timewise) to take the Howard Beach route vs Jamaica Station route to get to JFK? It looks like there are alot of subway stops that snake around on the Howard Beach route? Are there any stops on the AirTran that I can't see on the map? And how long should I plan during mid-week around 5pm?
