History - Construction of the airport began in 1942 with modest ambitions. Only 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land on the site of Idlewild golf course were earmarked for use. The golf course provided the airport's original namesake, Idlewild Airport. First commercial flights began on July 1, 1948. The airport was formally dedicated as New York International Airport on July 31, 1948. It was re-dedicated on December 24, 1963 as John F. Kennedy International Airport, following action of the Mayor and Council of the City of New York, and a resolution of the Commissioners of the Port Authority. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.
My brother is flying from Port-au-Prince, Haiti arriving at Terminal 8 and connecting Emirates to Bangkok via Dubai, departing from Terminal 4.

My daughter just landed from Frankfurt and is trying to locate the US Airways terminal for a flight out this evening. She was told 7 but can not locate US Airways.

You can check with Delta as early as 24 hours in advance. And after that you can leave the airport - just don't forget to come back for your flight:)
Hi, I was wondering how early before a flight I must check in at JFK. I just finish a trip at 3.00pm in New York and will head straight to JFK. My flight is due to leave at 6.55pm for Los Angeles before heading internationally to Australia. If i arrive at 5.00 pm at JFK, will this be enough time to clear through everything and get on the plane? I heard that if it is a domestic flight you don't need the full 2 hours.

Is there like peter pan bus that comes from the airport to Hartford, CT?
No, you'd have to go to Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan to get a bus to Hartford, or Penn Station for a train. Bus is much cheaper and runs more often to Hartford.

My girlfriend and i are flying from Manchester (UK) to San Jose (Costa Rica)on July the 20th. We fly from Manchester to JFK-airport (with American Airlines) and then from JFK Airport to San Jose (Costa Rica)(also American Airlines)
We have a lay over time of 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Is this enough?

My mom is departing from JFK on 7/21/10 at 5:45pm to go to Skopje, Macedonia but she has 2 connecting flights... 1st in Munich, Germany & 2nd in Budapest, Hungary then she lands in Skopje, Macedonia. She speaks very little english & can't read or write in Albanian or English. It's the first time she is traveling alone, is there a service in which someone could direct her so she does not get lost? I'm not sure of the airline yet, waiting for the email. Also she has a Macedonian Passport, will she have a problem in Germany or Hungary? Thank you!
