I realize that the LIRR may be the faster route between JFK and the Hotel Newton located across the street from the 96th St station. What would be the simplest and easiest way to take the subway there without taking the LIRR once we reach the Jamaica station on the AirTrain?

Hi,
Im wondering if anyone can me, we are flying to JFK airport in december for new years and travelling to the verve hotel in long island, we want to take the cheapest option so we believe its the train. can any one tell me the the route to take and which way i need to head at my last stop.
Also we are looking at time square area for new years, how much and how easy will it be to get a taxi back to out hotel early hours of the morning.
